Focusing On The Blessings

I’ve been avoiding posting on my blog for a couple of weeks now because I just don’t want to gripe on here.  Things have been bumpy.  The hubby and I are experiencing some challenging choices to make for our family and depression has reared its ugly head again.

Wow…three sentences in and I already went negative.

I don’t like being a negative person but some days it’s really hard work to focus on the positives, the blessings I do have.  I find that having tangible reminders in front of me helps…a lot.

Here are the tangible reminders that I need in front of me:

My husband of 16 years.  He makes me laugh every day.

My 14 year old son, affectionately nicknamed “Meathead”.  He’s got an amazing mind (from his father) and a very sarcastic sense of humor (yeah, from me).  I love to hear how his mind works.

My 10 year old son nicknamed “Skippy” because he’s a ruthless Uno player.  He has an amazing heart for people and remembers lots of details about everyone he meets.

And finally, my four year old son, “Monkey” because he’s been climbing ever since he could sit up.  He’s interested in everything and loves to help.

Looking at these faces helps me focus on the joy in life.

In tough times, what reminders do you use to help you through the day?

  1. I appreciate this post. It’s hard to find the positives and the things that keep you going in the midst of struggles and hardship. I try to focus my view long term, knowing that many things in life are temporary and to get to the goal, I have to trudge through them. Knowing that no situation HAS to last is comforting. Knowing God has a greater picture for me is my saving grace many times.

On another note, your boys are growing up so fast! And they are all ridiculously cute!
